If you see a message that your Discover account is locked, it usually means too many incorrect login attempts were made in a short time. This is a security measure to protect your account. The good news is that you can usually unlock it yourself quickly.

Why accounts get locked

  • Entering the wrong password or User ID multiple times in a row
  • Unusual login patterns that trigger automatic fraud protections
  • The exact number of allowed attempts and lockout duration may vary

How to unlock your account

1

Use the Forgot Password flow

On the Discover login page, click Forgot User ID/Password. Follow the prompts to verify your identity and reset your password. Completing this process typically restores access.
2

Try logging in again

After resetting your password, return to the login page and sign in with your updated credentials.
3

Call Discover if you still cannot get in

If the account remains locked, call the customer service number printed on the back of your Discover card. A representative can verify your identity and help restore access.
To avoid future lockouts, use a password manager to store your credentials, and make sure Caps Lock is off before typing your password.
Never share your password, one-time code, or card number with anyone who contacts you by phone, text, or email. Discover will never ask for your password or verification code unsolicited.
