# Why Your Discover Account Is Locked and How to Unlock It

If you see a message that your Discover account is locked, it usually means too many incorrect login attempts were made in a short time. This is a security measure to protect your account. The good news is that you can usually unlock it yourself quickly.

## Why accounts get locked

* Entering the wrong password or User ID multiple times in a row
* Unusual login patterns that trigger automatic fraud protections
* The exact number of allowed attempts and lockout duration may vary

## How to unlock your account

**1. Use the Forgot Password flow**

On the Discover login page, click **Forgot User ID/Password**. Follow the prompts to verify your identity and reset your password. Completing this process typically restores access.

**2. Try logging in again**

After resetting your password, return to the login page and sign in with your updated credentials.

**3. Call Discover if you still cannot get in**

If the account remains locked, call the customer service number printed on the back of your Discover card. A representative can verify your identity and help restore access.
